Abstract: In Italy, as in the rest of Europe, the stagnant dynamics of productivity represent a structural constraint, often overlooked in the formulation of public policies. Since the determinants of productivity are cross-cuIing – from innovation to the quality of institutions – it is necessary to adopt an integrated approach, overcoming the fragmentation between areas of intervention. To reverse the trend, a joint effort is needed at the national and European level, oriented towards the long term and supported by empirical evidence.
